Lucca

Lucca lies in a green valley just north west of Lorence. It’s is one of the most loved cities of Tuscany, a stop that can not miss on a trip to this beautiful region.

Lucca is known as the city of a hundred churches, thanks to its many religious builidings as the Cathedral of San Martino and San Michele in Foro, a beautiful church built over the ancient Roman forum. The city is renowed worldwide also for its impressive Renaissance walls that still surround the ancient part, one of the most complete and well preserved fortifications in Italy.

Aside from its amazing architecture, Lucca offers museums, gorgeous public squares, antique shops, an authentic gastronomic tradition, art exhibits and a rich annual calendar of events.

In the last few years, the city has become an important summertime destination for music due to the Lucca Summer Festival, which features noted artists on the international scene. Every October, in occasion of the Lucca Comics & Games, the town becomes an incredible fantastical setting, a famous festival that turns the ancient walls and the narrow streets into a full-color carnival outside the usual Carnival season in Venice.

Around Lucca you should not miss to visit the Versilia and its beaches, the Apuan Alps and the splendid Garfagnana with its small charming villages as Barga. There’s a lot to do and explore in the surroundings of Lucca!
